The Tavern To Close For Renovations Until Summer 2021

The Tavern will close until summer 2021 to undergo an extensive renovation, according to an announcement on its Facebook page.

Its closure will begin on Sunday, November 22, and last for about six to eight months, according to an employee.

“We will be taking this time to enhance our space and to create more ways for you to make memories at The Tavern,” the restaurant said in a statement.

The Tavern’s planned renovations include the addition of a second-story dining area with patio seating overlooking Old Main and Penn State’s campus.

This weekend, the restaurant will host a final dinner in its existing space. Warning tables will fill quickly, The Tavern encouraged eager diners to make reservations by calling (814) 238-6116.

While the restaurant’s dining spaces are closed, customers can order online for pickup through The Tavern’s website.

Opened in 1948, The Tavern has been a favorite of students and townies alike for more than 70 years. Hopefully, its new digs will preserve the restaurant’s storied history and legacy in downtown State College.
