Transfer Portal Roundup: Week 14

Penn State football picked up its second consecutive win Saturday afternoon, beating Rutgers 23-7 in Piscataway.

Elsewhere in college football, however, it wasn’t as great of a weekend for former Nittany Lions. Let’s take a closer look at how some former Penn State football players performed for their new teams this weekend.

Justin Shorter, Florida

Shorter had a quiet day in No. 6 Florida’s 31-19 win over Tennessee. He hauled in three passes for 25 yards, his longest for 11 yards.

The 6’5″ wideout has been inconsistent in his first season as a Gator, as he’s topped 30 receiving yards in a game just twice. Shorter has totaled 22 receptions for 241 yards and three touchdowns this season after not catching any touchdowns during his two-year Penn State career.

He’ll attempt to find the end zone for the first time in four weeks in Florida’s next game against LSU.

Daniel Joseph, NC State

Joseph wasn’t much of a factor for NC State in its 23-13 win over Georgia Tech in the regular-season finale. He posted just two tackles in what was one of his quieter games of the season.

The defensive lineman has been productive in his first season with the Wolfpack and earned much more playing time than he did with the Nittany Lions. Joseph has totaled 32 tackles, 10 for a loss, and 6.5 sacks in nine games played this season.

NC State went 8-3 in the regular season. The Wolfpack’s postseason details remain up in the air.

Zech McPhearson, Texas Tech

McPhearson didn’t have much of an impact on the stat sheet in Texas Tech’s regular-season finale against Kansas, totaling just three tackles. The Red Raiders came out on top 16-13 to finish their season 4-6.

The defensive back had a stellar season for Texas Tech with 53 tackles, six passes defended, and four interceptions. In fact, coming into the final game, McPhearson was the third-highest graded outside cornerback by Pro Football Focus with an 84.2 grade.
