Penn State Hoops-Wisconsin Postponed Amid ‘Health & Safety’ Concerns

Penn State men’s basketball’s upcoming matchup with No, 6 Wisconsin has been mutually postponed due to “health and safety,” the teams announced Saturday night.

The teams said they made the decisions out of “an abundance of caution” and followed the recommendations of health and safety experts. The game was originally set tip off at noon on Sunday, January 3.

Both Wisconsin and Penn State said they’d work with the Big Ten to “identify rescheduling options” and potentially make the game up later in the season.

Penn State did not initially respond to a request for comment on the factors behind the postponement. However, Wisconsin’s plans to resume practice Monday could suggest the issues lie in the Nittany Lions’ camp.

This is now Penn State’s second game postponed or canceled due to the virus. Its season-opener against Drexel was also postponed due to coronavirus concerns.

Penn State (3-4, 0-3 Big Ten) will now focus on preparing for its next game against No. 25 Ohio State, which is set for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6.
