Penn State Hoops Pauses Team Activities, Postpones Two Games Due To COVID-19 Cases
Penn State men’s basketball has officially paused all team-related activities due to an unspecified number of positive coronavirus tests among its highest-ranking personnel, the team announced Wednesday night.
Due to the pause, the Nittany Lions’ games against Michigan on January 9 and Rutgers on January 12 have been postponed. The teams will work with the Big Ten conference and attempt to reschedule the matchups at a later date.
Penn State said it hasn’t determined how the team pause will impact scheduled games beyond January 12.
“The health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and the broader community are of the utmost importance,” Penn State Athletics said. “Therefore, as part of the protocols established by the Big Ten Conference and Penn State Athletics medical staff and in consultation with University, local and national officials and guidelines, individuals with a positive test have been put into isolation.”
Following Wednesday’s announcement, five of Penn State’s scheduled games this season have been postponed due to coronavirus-related concerns, including its season-opener against Drexel. Matchups against Wisconsin and Ohio State were postponed on Saturday and Tuesday, respectively.
We’ll update this post with more information as it becomes available.
