Penn State Football’s CJ Thorpe Enters NCAA Transfer Portal
Penn State football offensive lineman CJ Thorpe has entered the NCAA transfer portal after four years with the program.
Thorpe announced via his Twitter account Thursday afternoon that he’ll enter the portal as a defensive lineman.
“These past 4 years at Penn State have taught me unforgettable lessons,” Thorpe said in the tweet. “There have been trials and tribulations that helped me to grow into the person I am today. For all of these things, the good and the bad I am thankful.”
“I will be entering the transfer portal as a Defensive Lineman, leaving at the end of the spring as a graduate transfer,” Thorpe continued. “With a year of experience in college at defense as well as a playing style that is truly made for it I believe this is the best move for me.”
He has two remaining years of eligibility that will allow him to play what he believes to be his “true position on the field.”
Thorpe came to Happy Valley in 2017 and redshirted his freshman season. From there, he played a little bit of defensive tackle his redshirt freshman season before transitioning to a full-time offensive lineman the following season.
He made eight starts at right guard throughout his Penn State career, and appeared in 32 games overall. He earned Academic All-Big Ten Honors in 2018, 2019, and 2020.
Thorpe is the third Nittany Lion to enter the transfer portal this offseason. Defensive lineman Judge Culpepper entered the portal shortly after the season ended and is still looking for a new home. Defensive tackle Antonio Shelton, on the other hand, officially transferred to Florida Wednesday morning.
