Penn State Women’s Hockey Ranked For First Time In Program History

Following its best start in program history, Penn State women’s hockey has found itself towards the top of the women’s college hockey world.

The Nittany Lions’ 6-1-1 start to the season helped earn them the No. 10 ranking in this week’s USCHO poll. It’s the first time the Nittany Lions have been ranked in program history.

Penn State swept Robert Morris this past weekend for wins number five and six on the season. It was the first time the Nittany Lions had swept the Colonials and the first time in eight years that the Colonials had been swept at home in CHA play.

Head coach Jeff Kampersal has helped build up the program gradually since coming in as the lead man in 2017. His defensive orientated gameplan mixed with the talent of players like December’s WCHA Rookie of the Month Kiara Zanon have catapulted the Nittany Lions into the national spotlight.

Penn State currently sits top of the CHA standings with 13 points, five ahead of second place Robert Morris. The Nittany Lions will continue their historic season on the road against RIT on January 15.
