3/20 Coalition To Host ‘Stand For MLK, Fight For Osaze’ Protest January 18

State College’s 3/20 Coalition, a local advocacy group, will host a protest “in the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.” to demand justice for Osaze Osagie.

The event will start at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, January 18 at the Allen Street Gates. Masks are required at the outdoor event, and social distancing is highly encouraged.

Osagie was fatally shot in his own home by a State College police officer completing a mental health check in March 2019. The names of the three officers involved in Osagie’s death were released by the borough in early January after 20 months of pressure from the 3/20 Coalition and a federal lawsuit filed by the Osagie family.

Although the involved officers’ names are now known, the group still demands their firing and prosecution.

The 3/20 Coalition has hosted many events in State College to protest against racial injustice and police brutality. The group organized a “Justice for Breonna Taylor” protest in September and led several teach-ins to educate individuals on issues the Black community faces.
