Lady Lions-Rutgers Postponed Due To COVID-19 Concerns

Penn State women’s basketball’s upcoming matchup with Rutgers has been postponed due to coronavirus concerns with the Scarlet Knights’ program, according to a press release published Tuesday afternoon.

According to Rutgers’ statement, the decision was made as the school “continues to adhere to Big Ten conference safety protocols outlining a return to competition after positive COVID-19 tests among Tier 1 individuals.” Tier 1 personnel includes student-athletes, coaches, trainers, and some staff members.

The game was originally set to tip off at 7 p.m. on Thursday in Piscataway.

Both Penn State and Rutgers said they’ll work with the Big Ten to “identify potential rescheduling options” later on this season.

This is the second game that has been postponed for the Lady Lions so far this season due to the coronavirus. Earlier this season, Penn State’s matchup with Michigan was postponed due to coronavirus concerns on the Wolverines’ end.

Penn State (4-6, 1-5 Big Ten) will now turn its attention to its next game against Minnesota at 6 p.m. on Monday, January 25. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
