Mac O’Keefe Named USILA Second-Team Preseason All-American

Penn State men’s lacrosse attackman Mac O’Keefe was named a preseason All-American by the USILA on Thursday.

Now a graduate student, O’Keefe is entering his fifth competitive season with the Nittany Lions after accepting an additional year of eligibility due to the coronavirus.

O’Keefe has had a prolific career with Penn State. In three full seasons and the shortened 2020 campaign, the New York native scored an impressive 192 goals and has added 42 assists. He was one half of a four year partnership with ‘Assist King’ Grant Ament. Unfortunately for O’Keefe and Penn State, Ament will not return to pad O’Keefe’s stats for 2021 after announcing he would play professionally starting last summer.

The preseason All-American list is a group full of star-studded talent, which goes to show just how tough the year will be at the top of NCAA lacrosse. O’Keefe was nudged out of the first team by attackers Michael Sowers (Duke), Jeff Teat (Cornell), and Chris Gray (UNC).

The schedule for the 2021 NCAA season hasn’t yet been revealed for the Nittany Lions, although it is most likely that O’Keefe and Penn State will begin play sometime in February.
