Lady Lions Forward Johnasia Cash Earns Big Ten Player Of The Week Honors

Behind an undefeated effort this past week, national recognition is beginning to pile up for Penn State women’s basketball.

Superstar senior forward Johnasia Cash was named the Big Ten Player of the Week Monday afternoon for her efforts in two double-digit wins against Nebraska and Wisconsin. In two games, the anchor of the Lady Lion front court averaged 22.5 points and 11.5 rebounds in dominant fashion.

On Thursday night against the Cornhuskers, Cash scored a season-high 27 points on an efficient 9-for-16 outing from the field. Additionally, the SMU-transfer gathered a career-best 19 rebounds for her fourth consecutive, and seventh total, double-double performance on the season.

Cash’s powerful paint presence continued into Sunday afternoon’s matchup against the Badgers, where she accounted for 18 points on 8-for-11 shooting. Although the McKeesport, Pennsylvania native’s double-double streak ended, she collected four rebounds and accounted for three assists to help the Lady Lions produce a season-high 98 points.

During the productive two-game stretch, Cash shot 63% from the field. Her season-long field goal percentage of 50.5% ranks eighth in the conference. Furthermore, the imposing senior’s streak of four-consecutive double-double outputs was the longest run of such by a Lady Lion since 1997.

Penn State will try to extend its four-game winning streak on Wednesday in a pivotal matchup versus No. 15 Indiana. Tipoff from Bloomington is set for 4 p.m.
