New Campus Rec App Makes Scheduling, Facility Entry A Breeze

Penn State’s Campus Recreation app just got a facelift, folks.

The app was updated recently to adopt new features that include direct links for workout classes, program hours, and time slot reservations.

The app’s barcode ID feature allows for contactless entry to all of the recreation facilities on campus, eliminating the need to swipe in with an ID card. Penn State requires all students who wish to use the on-campus gyms to reserve a time slot beforehand, and the app provides the user greater ease of access to do so.

Users can enable push notifications for the app to stay up-to-date with schedules across the Campus Recreation system. Between program start times, class changes, or facility closures, the app provides you with the easiest path to the pertinent information.

The app houses scheduling information for all of the Campus Recreation program offerings and fitness classes. Users can even download the schedules of their favorite programs directly onto their phone’s calendar.

The app is available on both Apple and Android devices. You can find it by searching “Penn State Campus Recreation.”

User Guide

When users first open the app, there are 23 thumbnail icons that lead to specific functions within the app. Below are some of the most important ones that will help streamline the Campus Rec experience.

Barcode ID

When you tap on this icon, your individual student barcode will appear as your screen illuminates to maximum brightness to make it easy for you to scan in at a Campus Rec facility.

Reserve Your Workout

This function leads to a list of the available Campus Rec facilities and reservation times. When selecting a facility, it summarizes the unique workout equipment or space available to the user.

Schedules

This function compiles a list of the scheduled workout time slots from each facility available to students in one place. You can enter the schedules function and reserve your workout time slot directly from there as well.

Programs

Upon entering this function, you will be presented with a list of all Campus Recreation programs. Each program is organized within a category, listed with a time, and includes a link that will allow you to register. Virtual activities are listed here as well.

Intramural Sports

Penn State recently released a new slate of intramural sports for the spring semester, and this thumbnail will take you to Campus Rec’s website that allows students to register directly in the app.

Favorites

Users can select their favorite classes, and they will be compiled here.

If you’re still unsure about the process of returning to workout at the gyms on campus, you can watch a short instructional video made by Campus Rec or check out the Campus Recreation website.
