Penn State Conditionally ‘Opts In’ For EA NCAA Football Video Game
The days of playing with Penn State rosters in outdated versions of NCAA Football might be over soon, folks.
Penn State Athletics has conditionally opted into the forthcoming video game, which will allow EA Sports to officially use its jerseys, stadiums, and songs in the game. While the program is “in” for now, its acceptance is conditional.
“Penn State’s approval to move forward with the new EA Sports College game was conditioned on being able to monitor the development of the program with the ability to withdraw if it does not meet University expectations,” a university spokesperson said in a statement.
“Penn State understands that EA Sports is following the developments regarding name, image and likeness and plans to take steps to include student-athletes if the opportunity arises,” the spokesperson continued. “We will continue to monitor as events unfold.”
Penn State’s conditional approval comes after EA’s February announcement that it’s bringing back the beloved NCAA Football video game franchise. Amid the hype, we even designed some potential covers for the game. Who wouldn’t want to see Jahan Dotson on the front?
Currently, EA does not have the ability to use Division I college football players’ names, likenesses, or images (NLI) in its games. The NCAA voted in January to delay any sort of NLI legislation for the time being, but talks remain hopeful for the future.
