James Franklin Surprises Penn State Football With ‘Earned’ Day Off
Penn State football head coach James Franklin gave his team quite a surprise this morning.
In a video tweeted by the team, Franklin gave a fiery speech to the Nittany Lions and spoke about how they need to earn everything with nothing being entitled to them. He ended by saying the team “earned” a day off this week.
“We gotta win more days in the offseason than anybody else on our schedule,” Franklin said. “And if we do that, the games will take care of themselves.”
From there, Franklin went into entitlement, saying that not one person on the team is entitled to, you know, *anything*.
“We’re not entitled to ****!” Franklin emphasized. “You’re not entitled to any playing time. You earn it!”
Do you think Penn State is entitled to any wins because of its storied history? Well, Franklin certainly doesn’t.
“We’re not entitled to any number of wins because of the Penn State logo, and our history, and our tradition,” Franklin said. “It doesn’t entitle us to nothing. We have to earn it.”
Finally, Franklin got to the point, giving his team a surprise they were clearly excited about.
“That’s the same in football, that’s the same in life,” Franklin said. “You will get what you earned! And you earned a day off this week.”
The team erupted with joy, as players were seen running and yelling with excitement. Left tackle Rasheed Walker even tackled Franklin to the ground, which led to a dogpile on the coach.
A player is heard in the background saying “I needed that,” which shows the relief some of the players felt.
Since today is Thursday, it’s likely the day off will come tomorrow for the squad. The Nittany Lions will get a nice rest before spring practice starts on Monday, March 15.
