UPUA Funds Menstrual Kits, Hand Sanitizer Stations For Movin’ On
The 15th Assembly of the University Park Undergraduate Association met virtually Wednesday night for its eighth spring semester meeting.
The night began with a special presentation from Brian Patchcoski, assistant vice president for diversity, equity, and inclusion at Penn State. Next, Michael Miller of Students Teaching Students addressed the assembly.
Following reports from UPUA President Zach McKay and Vice President Lexy Pathickal, the assembly confirmed Rene Richardson as the executive director of rights and equity before moving into new business.
New Business
The first piece of new business of the night was Bill 20-15, which focused on funding period toolkits. The project is in partnership with Days for Girls, a group whose mission is focused on distributing and educating women on menstruation products and menstrual health across the world. $723.64 in funding passed unanimously.
The next bill up for debate was Bill 21-15, which focused on funding for hand sanitizer stations at Movin’ On 2021. UPUA would purchase the hand sanitizer from TerraBoost, and it would cost $4,325 to buy it all. The bill passed unanimously.
Movin’ On is Penn State’s annual music festival hosted near the end of the spring semester. Last year, it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The final piece of new legislation was Resolution 54-15, which focused on hosting a Graduate and Professional School panel. UPUA would moderate the discussion, which would include topics such as graduate school applications, admissions, mental health, and more. The resolution passed unanimously.
After a few comments from the speaker of the assembly, the meeting was adjourned at 9:06 p.m.
