Penn State Women’s Soccer’s Ally Schlegel, Kat Asman Earn Big Ten Weekly Honors

Penn State women’s soccer’s Ally Schlegel and Kat Asman were both hailed by the Big Ten for impressive performances last week.

The pair earned Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively.

Schlegel fired on all cylinders in both games against Minnesota and Michigan. The redshirt sophomore scored twice in the win over the Gophers, before notching one of the Nittany Lions’ four goals against the Wolverines.

Schlegel began the week strong on Thursday, scoring twice inside of the first half hour to carry the Nittany Lions to the win. Schlegel’s first was a strong solo effort, flexing her strength by beating the Minnesota defender to the ball and finishing.

Schlegel capped her week off with the go-ahead goal for Penn State in Sunday’s tilt with Michigan. An impressive run from Sam Coffey neatly set up the striker for her sixth goal of the year.

Coffey also deserves credit for Penn State’s offensive output, tying Schlegel with a team-high six goals thus far in the campaign.

Meanwhile, Asman kept the defense humming last week, giving up just one goal over a 180-minute span against two of the better Big Ten opponents. The performance against Michigan saw Asman post a career-high seven saves, including these athletic efforts.

No. 11 Penn State returns to the pitch on Thursday with a trip to Iowa City to face the Hawkeyes, before playing Nebraska for its last away match of the regular season on Sunday.
