Penn State Harrisburg To Host Actress, Neuroscientist Mayim Bialik For Virtual Lecture March 30

Penn State Harrisburg will host actress and neuroscientist Mayim Bialik for a virtual lecture at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30.

Her talk, titled “The Big Bang Theory: Making Science Cool (& Funny),” is part of Penn State Harrisburg’s Women in STEAM Symposium, which has held multiple events throughout the month of March. The event is meant to encourage women and students of color to pursue STEAM fields.

Students can use this link to register for the free event. The lecture will be livestreamed via YouTube Live. The address is open to all students and community members.

Bialik is best known for her role in the popular sitcom “The Big Bang Theory.” She played the role of neuroscientist Amy Farrah Fowler for 12 years before the show ended in 2019.

Bialik began her acting career in the 1990s but decided to take a break to pursue a bachelor’s degree and Ph.D. in neuroscience at UCLA. Bialik then returned to acting, where she landed a role in “The Big Bang Theory,” where her neuroscience knowledge proved useful.

She will speak about the importance of female presence in STEAM fields and her adoration for the sciences interacting with her acting career.
