Penn State Men’s Lacrosse’s Mac O’Keefe Breaks NCAA Career Goals Record

Mac O’Keefe is now the greatest goal-scorer in NCAA history.

In the second quarter of Friday’s game against Michigan, O’Keefe buried career goal No. 213, giving him sole possession of the NCAA all-time career goals record. Former Duke and current Chrome LC attackman Justin Guterding was the previous record holder when he ended his college career in 2018 with 212 career goals.

The graduate student from Syosset, New York opted to return to the Nittany Lions in 2021 for one final season following a coronavirus-shortened 2020 campaign. O’Keefe’s patented underhand shot has made him one of the most lethal shooters in college lacrosse history. He entered the 2021 season sitting on 192 goals.

O’Keefe is a three-time All-American already during his time in Happy Valley. He also holds the top two goal-scoring seasons in program history, netting 51 goals as a freshman and a Big Ten record 78 goals as a junior. On top of his 78 goals two years ago, his 96 points that season are the second-most points in a season in program history.

With this achievement, O’Keefe has officially cemented himself as one of the greatest players, not only in Penn State history, but NCAA history. After this season, O’Keefe is expected to enter the PLL College Draft and be a first-round pick.
