Penn State To Host In-Person ‘Finally Unplugged Fest’ April 23

Penn State will finally give students a chance to get outside, earn prizes, and enjoy a free meal in person this week.

The university’s Office of Student Affairs will host a “Finally Unplugged Fest” from 2 to 8:15 p.m. outside the IM Building on Friday, April 23. There, student teams will show off their skills in five different events: Slingshot Saloon, Rootin’ Tootin’ Aim’ ‘n Shootin’ archery challenge, Pandemic Paint Party, Boss of the Toss Corn Hole Relay, and the Tremendously Tricky Tower station where teams will compete to try and build the tallest tower.

The event will take place through six 75-minute sessions. Students can sign up and create their teams on the IM Leagues website. Students should arrive at the front of the IM Building with their team 15 minutes before their scheduled time in order to complete the check-in process.

After each session, students are invited to the Park Avenue fields for music and a free meal catered by vendors, including Home D Pizzeria, Panera Bread, and Jersey Mike’s. Along with the food, all participants will walk away with a Penn State beach towel.

Some possible prizes include Apple MacBooks, iPhones, AirPods, Beats by Dre headphones, a semester’s worth of textbooks, a game of corn hole at the president’s house with Eric Barron himself, boat rentals at Stone Valley Recreation Area, restaurant gift cards, and Penn State apparel. Prizes will be awarded both randomly and through activities at the event.

“This event should be a source of fun and release for the students who participate, and I’m grateful to our staff for creating it,” said Damon Sims, vice president for Student Affairs.

Players and staff are required to wear masks at the event, except when they’re eating. Sanitization stations will be present, meals will be pre-packaged, teams will be physically distanced, and no spectators will be permitted there, either.

In light of the event, all Campus Recreation facilities will be closed for recreation activity on Friday, April 23.
