LSU, Wake Forest Highlight Penn State Hoops’ Emerald Coast Classic Opponents

Penn State men’s basketball’s non-conference schedule is starting to take shape.

On Tuesday, the Nittany Lions announced they’ll play St. Francis Brooklyn, LSU, and either Oregon State or Wake Forest throughout the Emerald Coast Classic tournament at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville, Florida.

The Nittany Lions will first play St. Francis Brooklyn at the Bryce Jordan Center on Thursday, November 18. When the two teams last battled in 2003, Penn State won. It holds a 2-0 record in games against the Terriers.

The first matchup in Florida for Penn State will be against LSU at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 26. The two teams have met only once when the Nittany Lions took care of the Tigers in 1954 en route to their only Final Four appearance in school history.

The next day, they will face either Oregon State or Wake Forest. Depending on the outcome of the LSU game, the Nittany Lions will play at 4 p.m. if they lost and at 7 p.m. if they won. Like against LSU, Penn State has played Oregon State only once and lost that matchup. Penn State last battled Wake Forest in 2019 in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, winning 76-54.

The new-look Nittany Lions will likely be challenged early on in Florida. First-year head coach Micah Shrewsberry certainly has his work cut out for him to make sure the roster is ready to rock.
