Penn State Women’s Volleyball’s Serena Gray Transfers To Pitt

Although Penn State women’s volleyball has made some major moves so far this offseason, the team suffered a significant loss Thursday evening.

Penn State middle blocker Serena Gray is officially transferring to Pitt to continue her collegiate career, the team announced on Twitter. Gray had reportedly entered the NCAA’s transfer portal earlier this year after spending three seasons with the Nittany Lions.

“I’m beyond excited to announce this,” Pitt head coach Dan Fisher said in a release. “Serena is one of the top players in the country and we expect her to have an immediate impact here at Pitt. It was the right fit for her culturally and academically. We’re thrilled that she’s joining us in Pittsburgh.”

Gray started all three of her seasons in Happy Valley and received All-American honors in 2018 and 2019. She racked up 117 kills and 44 total blocks for the Nittany Lions this past season.

Penn State’s presence at the net will undoubtedly weaken following Gray’s move. The Nittany Lions will likely depend on standout All-American Kaitlyn Hord to show the ropes to younger talents like Allie Holland, who impressed in limited playing time this spring.
