Penn State Hoops To Host Miami In ACC/Big Ten Challenge December 1

Penn State men’s basketball will host Miami in this year’s Big Ten/ACC Challenge on Wednesday, December 1, the program announced on Monday.

Specific broadcast information is still to be determined, but the game will be televised on either ESPN, ESPN2, or ESPNU.

The upcoming matchup was initially reported by CBS Insider Jon Rothstein, before Penn State men’s basketball officially announced it Twitter.

The Nittany Lions have recently faired well in this non-conference event. Last year, Jim Ferry led Penn State to one of its best performances in recent memory against No. 15 Virginia Tech, while the Nittany Lions dispatched Wake Forest a year prior. Penn State has won three straight ACC/Big Ten Challenge matchups.

Penn State has also historically had success against the Hurricanes. The two teams have met four times, most recently in 1995. Penn State has won all four contests by an average of 14 points.

Miami struggled last season, going 10-17 overall with a 4-15 conference record. However, the Hurricanes did make the end of the season interesting by beating Pitt and Clemson to get all the way to the ACC Tournament quarterfinals.

The 2021-22 season is coming together for Micah Shrewsberry and Penn State, and the game against Miami will be the fifth non-conference matchup on the schedule. The Nittany Lions will begin their season against Youngstown State on November 10 and play three opponents in the Emerald Coast Classic: St. Francis Brooklyn, LSU, and either Wake Forest or Oregon State.
