Former Penn State Men’s Hockey Player Liam Folkes Traded To AHL’s Rockford IceHogs
Former Penn State men’s hockey forward Liam Folkes has been traded to the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs, the team announced Monday night.
Folkes arrives in Rockford thanks to a trade from his previous team, the Bakersfield Condors. Now, he’ll join the Chicago Blackhawks’ minor league affilite.
Now, Folkes will play alongside former Nittany Lions teammate Evan Barratt, who has played for Rockford since his departure from Penn State in 2020.
With the Condors, Folkes posted one goal in six games. Prior to playing in Bakersfield, Folkes played in Denmark with the Frederikshavn White Hawks, where he put up three points (one goal, two assists) in 14 games.
Folkes played for the Nittany Lions for four years and spent his senior year wearing an “A” on his sweater. As a junior, he racked up 42 points in 39 games — his best season with Gadowsky’s squad. The newest IceHog is likely best remembered for capturing the Big Ten Hockey Tournament title for Penn State on a breakaway goal in overtime.
