Saquon Barkley To Take 100% Of Endorsement Money In Bitcoin

Could Saquon Barkley become the world’s next crypto king?

The Penn State legend and current New York Giants running back announced Wednesday that he’s now accepting all endorsement and marketing payments in only Bitcoin — a decentralized digital currency seen as one of many alternatives to cash.

On the latest episode of “The Best Business Show,” Barkley said investing in cryptocurrency is crucial when navigating “issues with cash” and rising inflation.

“You see how high [inflation] is, and you learn that you can’t save yourself through wealth,” Barkley said. “That’s why I am going to be taking my marketing money in Bitcoin.”

Barkley also said it’s especially important to take care of his financial future as he works his way back from a season-ending injury.

“When you see the KDs, the Lebrons, and [Tom] Bradys of the world, and you want to create generational wealth, you can’t do that with the sport that I play…and coming off of injuries,” Barkley continued. “When you sit out of football for a whole year, you realize that this game could be taken away from you.”

As a big-name star, Barkley has little trouble winding up in marketing ads and endorsements, including some for Dunkin Donuts and Hulu. He’s estimated to earn north of $10 million in endorsement deals each year — all of which would be converted to Bitcoin moving forward.

No. 26 is far from a novice when it comes to Bitcoin. He’s been beating the cryptocurrency drum for a long while now and even has “#Bitcoin” in his Twitter bio.

Barkley isn’t the first NFL player to take advantage of the growing cryptocurrency market. In April, tight end Sean Culkin signed with the Kansas City Chiefs and converted his entire salary to Bitcoin before getting released in May. No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence also converted his entire signing bonus into cryptocurrency back in April.
