UHS Offering Free COVID-19 Vaccines For Students Starting August 23
Penn State students who still need to get vaccinated against COVID-19 now have an even easier way to get their shots.
University Health Services will begin administering free COVID-19 vaccines starting Monday, August 23 — the first day of classes.
Penn State said first and second doses of Moderna’s vaccine are “readily available” starting August 23 and 24. They’ll be up for grabs every Thursday and Friday, too, starting September 2 and 3.
COVID-19 vaccine appointments at UHS are available from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on select days. You can head to myUHS to schedule one today.
Students attending a clinic should bring their Penn State ID and a copy of their insurance card. Although vaccines are free, UHS could still charge students for administrative fees.
Elsewhere in town, Centre Volunteers in Medicine is providing free COVID-19 vaccines to anyone over 12. Pharmacies like CVS and Rite Aid have free walk-in clinics open, too.
To date, Penn State has not required students and employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19. However, more than 700 U.S. universities, including eight Big Ten schools, have already implemented vaccine mandates, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education.
Penn State students who aren’t vaccinated (or haven’t submitted proof of vaccination to the university) are required to undergo weekly COVID-19 testing this fall. Punishments for noncompliance include conduct referrals, suspensions, and bans from campus events, including football games.
