UPUA Welcomes First-Year Student Council, Funds Black Caucus Lunch
The 16th Assembly of the University Park Undergraduate Association met Wednesday night with the First-Year Student Council for the first time.
Representatives of Penn State’s mobile app, Penn State Go, opened the meeting with a special presentation. The group showcased the history and features of Penn State Go, as well as a planned desktop version of the app that could potentially feature grades and channels for students to contact their advisor through. Additionally, Penn State Go is working on incorporating Apple Pay and Google Pay into the app’s mobile-ordering services.
Another special presentation was provided by Lion PRIDE and QTPOC to talk about LGBTQIA+ organizations and opportunities available to students, as well as to propose UPUA’s current assembly to make more LGBTQIA+ supporting legislation, including increasing All Gender Bathrooms, more diversity within CAPS and student healthcare, and increasing mental health resources.
After hearing reports from President Erin Boas and Vice President Najee Rodriguez, the assembly moved into new business.
New Business
The first order of new business was to confirm two first-year representatives Giani Clarke and Zach Perrin, as well as the First-Year Student Council.
Next, Lion PRIDE representative Ryan Loscalzo was elected as the Chair of Facilities.
Then, UPUA unanimously passed Bill 08-16: Funding the Black Caucus Alumni Brunch was addressed. The bill proposed UPUA fund the brunch to help students connect with Black Caucus alumni and the community.
