Nittany Lions In The NFL: Week Five Recap

Another week in the NFL has come and gone, and more and more former Nittany Lions continued to impress many across the league.

Here’s a recap of how the former Nittany Lions performed during this week’s games:

Adrian Amos

After a slow start to the 2021 season Green Bay Packers safety Adrian Amos had his best game so far this year against the Cincinnati Bengals. Amos grabbed his first interception of the season picking off Joe Burrow on the first drive of the second half.

Amos was a big factor in this game and helped Green Bay win 25-22 in overtime to improve to 4-1 on the season. He also added eight total tackles, increasing his season total to 37.

Nick Scott

Nick Scott came up huge on Thursday night as the Rams safety grabbed the game-sealing interception for Los Angeles in its 23-17 win over the Seattle Seahawks.

It was the first career interception for the third-year safety as Scott continues to contribute well for the Rams this season.

Micah Parsons

Micah Parsons continued his Defensive Rookie of the Year campaign Sunday against the New York Giants in a 44-20 win. Since being moved to the defensive line, Parsons has continued to excel and open the eyes of many fans as a future star. The linebacker/defensive end (call him whatever you want) had another great game by registering eight total tackles and three quarterback hits.

Parsons has become a de facto leader of the Dallas defense through the first five weeks of the season. It’s scary to think how high his ceiling could be in the league.

Odafe Oweh

Speaking of Defensive Rookie of the Year candidates, Odafe Oweh continued to shine on Monday night against the Indianapolis Colts. He had a big strip sack mid-way through the first quarter as the Colts were aiming to punch in a score.

Oweh added another sack to increase his total to three on the season. He also contributed three tackles in the overtime win over the Colts.

Austin Johnson

The sixth-year defensive tackle is on pace for his best season so far in the NFL. Johnson added another sack on Sunday for the Giants, increasing his total to three on the year. Johnson also posted four tackles to bring his season total to 24.

Johnson has become one of the best defensive players for the Giants this season considering he’s tied for the team lead in sacks and leading in tackles for loss.

Chris Godwin

It was a bit of a down week for Godwin as fellow Tampa Bay receivers Mike Evans and Antonio Brown carried the Buccaneers in a 45-17 blowout win over the Miami Dolphins. Godwin hauled in seven receptions for 70 yards.

Other Notables

  • New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley totaled only only rushing yards due to a sprained left ankle. He likely avoided a broken ankle but should miss a few weeks of action.
  • Miami Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki recorded 43 yards on four receptions in a blowout loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
  • Miles Sanders didn’t contribute much in the Eagles’ 21-18 win over the Carolina Panthers. The Philadelphia running back picked up 45 rushing yards on 11 rushes and six receiving yards on five catches.
  • Amani Oruwariye had nine tackles on Sunday (the most in a game in his career) for the Detroit Lions in their 19-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
  • Allen Robinson continued to struggle as the Bears receiver totaled only 32 yards on four catches in a win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
