Penn State-Iowa Was FOX’s Ninth-Most-Watched Game Ever

The stakes were high when Penn State and Iowa clashed over the weekend, and college football fans around the country certainly didn’t miss it.

Iowa’s 23-20 win over Penn State drew in about 6,904,000 viewers Saturday afternoon, making it the ninth-most-watched regular-season college football game in FOX history, according to Nielsen Media Research.

Unsurprisingly, Penn State-Iowa checked in as college football’s most-watched game in the late-afternoon window on Saturday. The matchup’s ratings were up about 210% compared to 2019’s comparable week six Northwestern-Nebraska clash, according to FOX.

Before the Nittany Lions and Hawkeyes kicked off, FOX’s “Big Noon Kickoff” show broadcasted live from Iowa City. This week’s episode brought in 1.2 million viewers — a 30% bump compared to comparable 2019 performances.

With Penn State’s help, FOX is off to its best start to a college football season ever. Through week six, FOX’s college football matchups are averaging 3.98 million viewers, up about 30% from 2019.
