No Refund Theatre Presents: ‘Puffs’

No Refund Theatre is continuing its loaded fall lineup with a production of Harry Potter-inspired “Puffs” this weekend.

The show, alternatively titled “Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic,” is a comedic retelling of the famed fantasy series from the perspective of witches and wizards in the mild-mannered Hufflepuff house. Its original production debuted in 2015 and later toured internationally in Sydney and Toronto, among other destinations.

According to the original show’s website, Puffs isn’t authorized, sanctioned, licensed, or endorsed by author JK Rowling, Warner Bros., or anyone associated with the Harry Potter franchise. As a result, Puffs humorously uses slightly altered names and off-brand in-universe terminology. You’ll meet characters like “Blando Malfoy,” hear harrowing tales of the Azkaban parody “WizPriz,” and still drink plenty of Butterbeer.

Right off the bat, Puffs dismisses the “young, orphaned boy with a scar in the shape of a lightning bolt” in favor of Wayne, a New Mexico native orphan who winds up at “a certain school of magic and magic.” The production loosely follows the Harry Potter franchise’s plot while presenting a new vantage point from the Puffs’ eyes.

Directed by Chloe Braden, Puffs will premiere at 9 p.m. on Thursday, October 28, in Forum 111. Additional shows will play at 8 p.m. on Friday, October 29, and Saturday, October 29.

As always, No Refund Theatre admission is entirely free.
