Nittany Lions In The NFL: Week 10 Recap

Despite it being a quiet week for many former Penn Staters in the NFL, there were still plenty of good performances and highlight-reel plays from those who used to call Happy Valley home.

Here’s a recap on how many notable former Nittany Lions fared in week 10 of the NFL season.

Micah Parsons

The former star defensive standout and No. 12 overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft is having a phenomenal rookie season. Parsons followed up on Sunday in the Cowboys’ dominant 43-3 win over the Atlanta Falcons, adding six more tackles to his season total.

Parsons’ best play of the game came late in the first half with Dallas up 25 points when the rookie linebacker sacked Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, causing a fumble that the Cowboys would later recover.

Adrian Amos

Parsons wasn’t the only former Nittany Lion with a game-changing play in the NFL this week. Seven-year veteran Adrian Amos played a key role in the Green Bay Packers’ dominant defensive performance this week, shutting out the Seattle Seahawks 17-0. Amos recorded four total tackles to go along with three passes defended, including a clutch interception near the end of the game.

Chris Godwin

In what was an uncharacteristically bad game for the reigning Super Bowl champions, star wide receiver and former Nittany Lion Chris Godwin had a solid day in spite of the loss. Although the Buccaneers’ offense was out of sorts all game, Godwin brought in seven of his eight targets for 57 yards.

Odafe Oweh

Much like his former Penn State teammate Micah Parsons, Odafe Oweh is building a very impressive rookie defensive campaign of his own. In a Thursday night showdown with the Miami Dolphins, Oweh didn’t disappoint, recording four total tackles, including his fourth sack of the season.

Pat Freiermuth

Following a slow start to his rookie campaign, former Nittany Lion tight end Pat Freiermuth has slowly become more and more relevant in the Pittsburgh Steelers offense. In a game in which Freirmuth saw a career-high in targets, the young tight end recorded five catches for 31 yards as the Steelers tied against the Detroit Lions 16-16.

Blake Gillikin

Since being named the starting punter for the New Orleans Saints prior to week one, Gillikin has been one of the most consistent special teams players in the NFL. In his first game since receiving the NFC Special Teams Player of the month for October, Gillikin punted fives times and landed one inside the opposing 20-yard line.

Other Notables

  • Yetur Gross-Matos and DaQuan Jones had two tackles each for the Carolina Panthers in their shocking 34-10 victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
  • Amani Oruwariye recorded seven total tackles, a fumble recovery, and two passes defended in the Lions’ tie with the Steelers.
  • Nick Scott added two tackles to his season total in the Los Angeles Rams’ disappointing 31-10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football.
