Penn State Women’s Volleyball Qualifies For 2021 NCAA Tournament

Despite an up-and-down season, Penn State women’s volleyball is still going dancing next month.

The Nittany Lions will head to Pittsburgh to face Towson (26-4) in the first round of the tournament at 4 p.m. on Friday, December 3. Should they win, they’ll face the winner of UMBC and No. 3 national seed Pitt.

Head coach Russ Rose led Penn State to a 20-10 regular-season record this year. He’s guided the Nittany Lions to at least 20 wins in every season of his career (minus 2020’s pandemic-consensed campaign, which included only 16 regular-season games.

Penn State owns a 105-33 all-time record in NCAA Tournament play with seven national championships — the second-most titles in NCAA Division I history. The Nittany Lions trail only Stanford, which won back-to-back titles in 2018 and 2019 to bring its all-time championship collection to nine.

Following its selection, Penn State remains the only team to appear in every NCAA Tournament. Rose has guided the Nittany Lions to postseason berths every year since the annual Division I tournament began in 1981.

Last spring, Penn State came out of a first-round bye and swept North Carolina A&T to open its postseason run. The Nittany Lions then fell to No. 4 seed Texas, which later went on to face champion Kentucky in the title match.

Following regionals, Ohio State will host this year’s tournament semifinals and finals at Nationwide Arena in Columbus. Check out the full NCAA Tournament bracket here.
