Trustees To Consider Presidential Appointment December 9

Penn State’s Board of Trustees will meet on Thursday, December 9, to potentially appoint the university’s next president.

The off-cycle public meeting will begin at 11 a.m. in Deans Hall at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center, but it’ll also stream online. The board’s Subcommittee on Compensation will host a private executive session at 9 a.m. to likely iron out some details. The full board will follow and meet privately at 9:30 a.m. to be briefed, too.

Penn State has spent the better part of the last year searching for its next president ever since Eric Barron said he’d retire at the end of his contract in June 2022. The Board of Trustees has since launched a website dedicated to the university’s search, which outlines goals, missions, and qualifications for Penn State’s 19th president.

The university’s shortlist of candidates for president consideration isn’t public. However, the board developed a profile for the ideal candidate by gathering more than 14,000 survey responses from members of the Penn State community. Penn State’s 18-member Presidential Recruitment and Selection Committee has led the charge to conduct “a thorough recruitment and vetting process.”

Stay tuned with Onward State this week as we bring you the latest on Penn State’s next leader.
