Penn State Women’s Volleyball’s Kaitlyn Hord & Jonni Parker Named All-Americans
For the fourth year in a row, Penn State women’s volleyball stars Kaitlyn Hord and Jonni Parker are All-Americans.
Hord, a senior middle blocker, received second-team AVCA Division I All-American honors Wednesday morning following an impressive spring season. Last year, she was Penn State’s lone first-team All-American.
Hord ranked second among the Nittany Lions with 345 kills this season, while her hitting percentage (.394) and total blocks (165) easily paced the team. She finished the season third on the Division I list in total blocks and sixth in average blocks per set.
Senior right-side hitter Jonni Parker received third-team All-American honors for the second time in her career after powering Penn State’s offense all season long. She led the Nittany Lions with 448 kills and added 225 digs and 98 blocks to stuff the stat sheet. Parker’s 514.5 total points ranked fifth across the high-powered Big Ten.
Following Hord and Parker’s postseason honors, Penn State has now produced at least one All-American in 20 straight seasons.
The Nittany Lions’ future appears a little murky now that a handful of players, including Hord, have reportedly entered the transfer portal. Senior standouts with an additional year of eligibility to spare could reasonably explore the portal to find a new home for grad school, or perhaps a better shot at a national title.
Penn State’s season came to a close a few weeks back when the Nittany Lions fell to No. 3 national seed Pitt in the NCAA Tournament’s second round. Former Penn State middle blocker Serena Gray, who transferred to Pitt over the summer, has helped lead the Panthers to their first-ever Final Four appearance.
