Record 131 Penn State Student-Athletes Earn Fall Academic All-Big Ten Honors
It’s no secret that Happy Valley is home to some of the most talented student-athletes in the country. When they’re not winning titles on the field, though, you can probably find them achieving in the classroom, too.
A record 131 fall sport student-athletes earned Academic All-Big Ten honors this semester, breaking the previous mark of 117. Penn State football led with 38 student-athletes earning the honor, followed closely by women’s soccer with 20 recipients.
Of the 131 students, six students completed the fall semester with perfect 4.0 GPAs. Women’s soccer stars Kerry Abello, Sam Coffey, and Olivia Damico each earned 4.0s alongside cross country runners Victoria Vanriele and Payton Sewall and football captain Jonathan Sutherland.
This fall’s student-athlete scholars will be added to the list of 7,530 Penn State awardees to receive Academic All-Big Ten honors since 1991.
Additionally, Penn State boasts an impressive graduation rate among student-athletes in comparison to other universities. For the previous five years, 92% of Nittany Lion student-athletes graduated from University Park, according to the NCAA.
