Report: Penn State Football Defensive Lineman Joseph Appiah Darkwa Enters Transfer Portal

Penn State football defensive tackle Joseph Appiah Darkwa reportedly entered the transfer portal Monday night, according to Rivals.com.

The German native played three seasons for the Nittany Lions, but he never saw in-game action throughout his time in Happy Valley.

As the No. 1 prospect from Germany in 2019, Appiah Darkwa selected James Franklin’s program over UCLA, Cincinnati, and Indiana during his recruiting process. Despite earning an Academic All-Big Ten distinction in his most recent season, the rangy tackle never cracked the rotation for Brent Pry’s group.

The former three-star product was one of eight Nittany Lions from outside the United States, alongside Jonathan Sutherland, Jesse Luketa, Malick Meiga, Christian Veilleux, Theo Johnson, Jordan van den Berg, and Jan Mahlert.

His recruitment helped jumpstart an international pipeline for the Nittany Lions, as five foreign-born players signed on to don the blue and white after his commitment three years ago.

Appiah Darkwa will join Enzo Jennings, Des Holmes, Norval Black, and Justin Weller as Nittany Lions currently seeking new landing spots. With the loss of the defensive tackle’s services, new coordinator Manny Diaz will be tasked with overhauling a unit set to replace several familiar pieces from its latest campaign.
