Two Penn State Men’s Soccer Stars Drafted In 2022 MLS SuperDraft

Two Penn State men’s soccer standouts were selected to the 2022 MLS SuperDraft on Tuesday night.

The New York Red Bulls got things started by selecting Seth Kuhn No. 73 overall. A mere two picks later, Atlanta United FC took Danny Bloyou to keep a Nittany Lion-heavy third round going strong.

Kuhn, originally a transfer from Duke, spent three years at Penn State and earned two second-team All-Big Ten honors. Head coach Jeff Cook relied heavily on Kuhn in the Nittany Lions’ midfield, as he had a knack at scoring game-winning goals. Penn State earned its first Big Ten double in the 2021 season with a lot of offensive help from the senior.

Bloyou, meanwhile, is a Ghana native who began his career at Old Dominion University before transferring to Penn State. The forward led the team in goals in 2020 and earned first-team All-Big Ten honors. Additionally, Bloyou was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament team during his junior year.

The former teammates are set to face off against each other twice throughout the 2022 MLS season. The first matchup is scheduled for June 30, followed by a second game on August 27. They’ll have a quick turnaround after the draft, though, considering the MLS season begins in just over one month.

Kuhn and Bloyou will also see a familiar face in the MLS in Brandon Hackenberg. Hackenberg was drafted in 2021 but chose to pursue his remaining year of NCAA eligibility and, alongside Kuhn and Bloyou, earned a Big Ten championship for Dear Old State.
