No Matter What, A Nittany Lion Will Play In Super Bowl LVI

For the 51st time in Super Bowl history, a former Penn State football player will play with the Lombardi Trophy on the line.

Following a crazy weekend of NFL playoff action, Nittany Lions on either the Los Angeles Rams or San Francisco 49ers are guaranteed to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. Either way, a pair of former Penn State stars will punch their tickets to Super Bowl LVI.

Robbie Gould & Kevin Givens — San Franciso 49ers

Gould played hero this weekend when he gave the 49ers the go-ahead field goal in the final seconds to send San Francisco to the NFC Championship Game. This will be the second time in three years that the 49ers will play with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line.

Even more impressive, Gould hasย neverย missed a kick in his playoffs career. Following Sunday’s game, heโ€™s 20-for-20 on field-goal attempts and 32-for-32 on extra points.

Although Givens didn’t record any statistics against Green Bay, he’s been a good contributor along San Francisco’s defensive line this season. Givens compiled 17 total tackles and a forced fumble as a rotational player with the 49ers.

Nick Scott & Grant Haley — Los Angeles Rams

The NFC West-champion Rams boast two former Penn Staters as well.

Up first is safety Nick Scott, who came up with a major play that led to the Rams’ win over Tampa Bay this weekend. Late in the second quarter, Scott picked off quarterback Tom Brady to make sure Los Angeles headed into the locker room with a comfortable lead.

Scott posted an excellent regular season this year, contributing 47 total tackles and recording two interceptions.

Former Penn State defensive back Grant Hailey also had a solid game for the Rams by collecting three tackles.

The 49ers will rest up and head to Los Angeles to face the Rams in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday, January 30. Tune in on FOX at 6:30 p.m. to see which Penn Staters will play in the Super Bowl.
