Penn State Softball Shuts Out Pitt 6-0

Penn State softball (11-11) is sitting at .500 after routing Pitt in front of a Steel City crowd on Wednesday. Thanks to a 6-0 win, the Nittany Lions are now 2-0 against their in-state rival this season.

How It Happened

Bailey Parshall (7-3) was electric in the circle for Penn State. She pitched another complete game, struck out 12 batters, and gave up just two hits. It was one of her best performances of the season and remarkably close to her perfect game from February.

Offensively, it was a great day for Penn State, too. Ally Kurland and Kaitlyn Morrison led the way with three hits each, the latter of whom had two doubles. Kurland paced the team with two RBIs, tying with Lauren Marcotte for most in the game. Michelle Leone also knocked in a run.

Takeaways

  • A national audience got to see Parshall dominate Pitt, and you love to see it. The game aired on the ACC Network and was the first nationally televised game for Penn State this season. The fact that Parshall dominated the entire game is a fantastic way to get some recognition that she absolutely deserves.
  • It is important for Penn State to build off of this momentum as the team plays its first home series of the seasonn next. If the Nittany Lions can win a chunk of these games, it will be a huge boost — especially for morale. Conference play is right around the corner, and every win matters headinng into the thick of the season.

What’s Next

The Nittany Lions play their first home series of the season starting on Friday, March 18. They will play UMass Lowell, Cornell, and Rider throughout the weekend, with one game on Friday, two on Saturday, and two on Sunday.
