Lady Lions Assistant Sarah Jenkins Named Delaware’s Head Coach
Sarah Jenkins, formerly an assistant coach for Penn State women’s basketball, has been hired as the head woman at Delaware.
Jenkins spent one year at Penn State under head coach Carolyn Kieger. Now, she returns to Delaware, where she previously served as the Blue Hens’ assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for four years beginning in 2017.
“To come back to Delaware and lead the women’s basketball program is an exciting moment,” Jenkins said in a release. “I am beyond thrilled to return to Delaware and take over as the head coach of one of the top programs not only in the Colonial Athletic Association, but the region.”
Prior to her time in Newark, Jenkins spent three seasons as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Georgetown. During her time playing for the Hoyas, Jenkins earned Big East Academic All-Star honors and served as a captain for two years.
“Sarah brings excellent experience and a commitment to developing young women on and off the court, a passion for the game of basketball, and knows how to win,” said Delaware Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Chrissi Rawak. “I know we have found the right person to build upon our success on and off the court and I cannot wait to partner with her to achieve that success.”
The Blue Hens finished this past season with a 24-8 record and made an appearance in this year’s NCAA Tournament. Delaware lost in the first round to Maryland.
