Creamery Land: A Penn State Spin On The Original ‘Candy Land’ Board Game
Over the past few years, we’ve redesigned classic board games and given them our own Penn State twist. From Monopoly to Risk, there have been plenty of opportunities for board game enthusiasts to try out some Happy Valley alternatives. Now, we figured it was time to retheme a game that could be fun for the whole family.
This week, we chose to put our own spin on “Candy Land,” the classic family board game that dates back to the 1940s. What better Penn State re-theme is there for a sugar-filled game than the Berkey Creamery, right?
Without further ado, let’s take a look at Creamery Land.
In the original game of Candy Land, regions of the board correspond to different sweets and candies. So, in our Penn State version, the areas are themed as some of the Creamery’s most iconic flavors. Players use the deck of cards to move forward until someone reaches the Creamery at the end of the road and wins.
To move, players use one of the game pieces, each showcasing a different type of ice cream cone. As you move along the board, use the bridges if you land on ’em and hope you don’t get sent back by the mint or vanilla card.
The cards work just as they do in the original game. You can even use the cards from the original game if you want to play our version. Draw a card and move forward accordingly. If you draw an orange, move forward to the next orange space. If you draw a double purple, move forward two purple spaces, and so on.
If you get lucky (or unlucky) and draw a special card, move forward or backward to the corresponding space on the board. You might jump far ahead of your opponents, or you could get pushed all the way back to the beginning. If you run out of cards, re-shuffle and use them again. The first person to reach the end wins!
Happy travels through Creamery Land, folks.
