Marcus Allen Signs One-Year Tender With Pittsburgh Steelers

Former Penn State football star Marcus Allen is sticking with the Pittsburgh Steelers after signing his one-year restricted free agent tender on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old linebacker, who once converted from safety, is now set up for a fifth season with the Steelers. Allen has so far spent most of his NFL career in a backup or special teams role.

Allen spent his first two seasons on Pittsburgh’s practice squad but logged 30 in-game appearances over the last two campaigns, including three starts. He finished the 2021 season with seven tackles and six special teams stops across 16 games.

In 2020, Allen posted a career-best season with 24 tackles across 14 games. He also tacked on two tackles for a loss, plus two quarterback hits.

The Steelers selected Allen No. 148 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft’s fifth round. He entered the league following a productive Penn State career that included 181 total tackles, five forced fumbles, three sacks, and an interception
