Ellis Brooks Signed By Green Bay Packers As Undrafted Free Agent

Update, May 1: Ellis Brooks is officially a Green Bay Packer, as announced by Penn State football late Saturday night.

Through a Twitter statement, Brooks’ old head coach James Franklin raved about the linebacker’s hard work and dedication.

“Ellis is very deserving of this opportunity with the Packers. He played the Mike-Linebacker position for us at a high level and capped off a great Penn State career with All-Big Ten second team honors,” Franklin said. “We are excited to see the next steps Ellis takes in his NFL career with the Packers and wish him nothing but the best on Sundays.”

Original Story: Ellis Brooks is off to the NFL, folks.

The Green Bay Packers signed Brooks after the conclusion of the 2022 NFL Draft, per a report from Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Brooks will join fellow Penn Staters Adrian Amos and Rasheed Walker — the latter of which was drafted Saturday in the seventh round.

The Mechanicsville, Virginia native spent four years with Penn State after coming into the program as a four-star recruit in 2017. In his college career, Brooks totaled 230 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and one interception, making a crucial impact on the Nittany Lions’ defense.

During the 2021 season, Brooks lead the team in tackles with 100, a career-high mark that was the fifth-highest in the Big Ten. Brooks was later named second-team All-Big Ten by the conference’s coaches, after his impressive season.

Brooks opted out of the Outback Bowl in order to prepare for the NFL. Although he was not invited to the combine, he showed off his athleticism at Penn State’s Pro Day.

Brooks was a steady part of the defense while he was a Nittany Lion, and he’s now the newest product of “Linebacker U” in the NFL.
