Specialist Ryan Barker Commits To Penn State Football As Walk-On

Penn State’s Class of 2023 is showing no signs of slowing down, folks.

Kicker/punter Ryan Barker announced Tuesday night that he’s committing to James Franklin’s program as a walk-on.

“After what has been a thrilling recruiting process I am beyond grateful to say I am committing to Penn State University,” Barker wrote. “I would like to thank my family for always pushing me to be great, my coaches for always believing in me, and my friends for always supporting me on Friday nights.”

“Thank you Coach Franklin and Coach Collins for giving a small town kid a chance,” he continued. “This is truly dreams turned into reality. I am excited to get to work, and see where this journey takes me.”

Barker, a Pennsylvania native, plays his high school ball at Kennett High School. According to Kohl’s Kicking, Barker is rated as a 4.5-star prospect as both a punter and kicker. Additionally, he’s ranked as the 44th-best kicker and 91st-best punter in the country.

The Nittany Lions’ 2023 class currently sits at No. 4 in the nation and No. 2 in the Big Ten, trailing only Ohio State in the conference. The class is headlined by offensive linemen Alex Birchmeier and J’Ven Williams.
