Penn State Women’s Volleyball Ranked No. 20 In 2022 Preseason Poll
Penn State women’s volleyball will begin its season ranked No. 20 in the country, according to the preseason AVCA Division I Coaches Poll.
The Nittany Lions are among seven Big Ten teams in the top 25, joining Nebraska (No. 1), defending national champion Wisconsin (No. 3), Minnesota (No. 5), Ohio State (No. 7), Purdue (No. 13), and Illinois (No. 17). Last season, Penn State started off the season ranked No. 12 in the country.
Penn State is entering uncharted territory as the 2022 season gets ready to kick off. Following legendary head coach Russ Rose’s retirement, Katie Schumacher-Cawley will lead the Nittany Lions into a new era as the program’s third-ever head coach. Rose had helmed the team since 1979.
The Nittany Lions will start their season at 7:30 p.m. on August 26 with a home match against Connecticut. After two more home games on August 27, Schumacher-Cawley’s squad will hit the road for five games, three of which will come in the “Tiger Challenge” at LSU.
Penn State went 21-11 during the 2021 season and boasted a 13-7 record within the conference. The Nittany Lions’ season ended in the second round of the NCAA Tournament when it fell to the Pittsburgh Panthers, who ended up advancing all the way to the tournament semifinals.
