Penn State Men’s Soccer’s Peter Mangione Named To MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List

One Penn State men’s soccer star was placed on the MAC Hermann Trophy watch list for the 2022 fall season, the team announced on Thursday.

Junior forward Peter Mangione is one of 38 Division I soccer players to join the watch list created by the United Soccer Coaches. The trophy is annually given to the National Player of the Year.

Mangione, who will begin his third year on the pitch for Penn State, is one of only two Big Ten representatives in the running for the Hermann Trophy. Indiana defender Daniel Munie was also named to the list.

The Hunt Valley, Maryland, native is no stranger to prestigious awards. Mangione was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and earned first-team All-Big Ten and first-team All-North Region honors last season.

United Soccer Coaches will select the MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalists on November 30, and the winner will be announced on January 6.

Until then, Mangione and the Nittany Lions will kick off their 2022 campaign at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 25, against Rhode Island. The game will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.
