Saquon Barkley & Cam Brown Named New York Giants Captains
The New York Giants released their list of ten captains for the 2022 NFL season Tuesday afternoon, and two of those names are Nittany Lions.
Former Penn State running back Saquon Barkley and linebacker Cam Brown have been named team captains by head coach Brian Daboll.
This will be Brown’s first time serving as captain for the Giants, while Barkley will where the “C” for the fourth consecutive year. Both were selected as Penn State team captains in their final years with the Nittany Lions.
Along with the Penn State duo, kicker Graham Gano, quarterback Daniel Jones, center Casey Kreiter, defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence, safety Julian Love, safety Xavier McKinney, tackle Andrew Thomas, and defensive end Leonard Williams were also selected as team captains.
Barkley had a slow 2021 season after coming off an injury-shortened 2020 season in which he tore his ACL in week two. The former first-round draft pick rushed for 593 yards on 162 attempts and scored only two rushing touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Brown has been a solid special teams player for the Giants since being drafted by the team in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He may be poised to play more minutes at the inside linebacker position this season.
The duo will open up the 2022 season when the New York Giants hit the road for a matchup with Tennessee Titans at 4:25 p.m. on Sunday, September 11. The game will be televised on FOX.
