Penn State Appoints Stephen Kampf As Senior Director Of Campus Recreation

Penn State has appointed Stephen Kampf as its new senior director of Campus Recreation, the university announced Wednesday. Kampf took over effective September 26, replacing interim director Linda Buonanno.

Kampf, a Pennsylvania native, brings plenty of experience to Penn State. Kampf was hired from the State University of New York College at Cortland, where he spent two years as its director of recreational sports. He was previously the assistant vice president for Student Affairs and director of Recreation and Wellness at Bowling Green State University.

“The opportunity to work with student leaders, employees and participants is something I really enjoy about working on a college campus,” Kampf said. “I’m excited to be working with the staff of Campus Recreation while being a part of Student Affairs.”

As the senior director of Campus Rec, Kampf will “oversee the operations of recreational and fitness facilities like the White and Intramural Buildings, Tennis Center, McCoy Natatorium and Stone Valley Recreation Area,” according to Penn State.

Kampf will also oversee multiple areas of student fitness, such as intramural sports, club sports, and outdoor adventure programs. He called the opportunity to work at Penn State “the high point” in his career.
