Refreshing Penn State Football Scorigami At The 2022 Bye Week

Well, well, well — look who’s 5-0 again.

Penn State football is heading into its bye week with a clean record with big road wins over Purdue and Auburn to boot. If you’re like us, you might not have only been rooting for the Nittany Lions, but also for Scorigami.

We introduced Penn State football Scorigami last season to keep track of every unique score in program history. Last season, we saw four Scorigamis — against Ball State, Auburn, Villanova, and Ohio State, marking 549 unique scores in Nittany Lions history. With the 2022 bye week upon us, let’s dive into this year’s outcomes to see if Scorigami struck again.

Penn State 35, Purdue 31: Not Scorigami

A Sean Clifford-led game-winning final drive was exactly what the Nittany Lions needed to put away Purdue, but it was also exactly what spoiled Scorigami. While 31-27 would have been a unique score, 35-31 already happened twice.

The most recent occurrence was in 2007 when Brian Hoyer and Michigan State came into Beaver Stadium and took down the Nittany Lions. This was also the final score of Penn State’s 1994 win over Illinois.

Penn State 46, Ohio 10: Scorigami!

You can always count on these early-season non-conference games for Scorigami. This officially marks the 550th unique score in Penn State history. The Nittany Lions have won 46-0 on five separate occasions and have scored exactly 46 points nine times. In 1932, Harvard beat Penn State 46-13.

Penn State 41, Auburn 12: Not Scorigami

This was an all-around electric game for Penn State fans, but not for fans of Scorigami. Although it looks like an odd score, 41-12 was the final score in the 1960 Liberty Bowl when No. 12 Penn State blew out Oregon at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia.

Penn State 33, Central Michigan 14: Not Scorigami

You only have to go back to the 2017 Keystone Classic against Pitt to find the last time this score occurred. But, this year’s Central Michigan game and the aforementioned stomping of the Panthers are the only two times this score has occurred. In both games, it took a safety to make this score happen. It was courtesy of Marcus Allen last time around.

Penn State 17, Northwestern 7: Not Scorigami

It’s only right that a game as ugly as this one didn’t yield a Scorigami. Penn State is now 2-2 in games that end with a score of 17-7. Oddly enough, the last time this score appeared in a Nittany Lions game was also against the Wildcats, which was in 2003.
