Penn State Men’s Hockey’s Ryan Kirwan Named Big Ten Third Star Of The Week

Penn State men’s hockey forward Ryan Kirwan was named the Big Ten’s Third Star of the Week. The sophomore combined for five points in Penn State’s weekend sweep of Canisius.

Kirwan had one goal in Friday’s 5-2 win and two in Saturday’s 7-5 defeat of the Golden Griffins. The DeWitt, New York, native also had one assist in each game.

Kirwan joins Minnesota forward Jimmy Snuggerud and Ohio State forward Stephen Halliday on the three stars list for this week. With 26 points, 13 goals, and 13 assists last season, he is widely expected to be a big contributor for the Nittany Lions this season. Guy Gadowsky has even praised Kirwan and has said he has an “NHL shot.”

Kirwan and Penn State are next scheduled to play on Thursday, October 13, with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m. against Mercyhurst at Pegula Ice Arena.
