Penn State Women’s Soccer Climbs One Spot To No. 24 In United Soccer Coaches Weekly Poll

Penn State women’s soccer jumped one spot to No. 24 in the United Soccer Coaches week eight poll. Head coach Erica Dambach’s team was previously ranked No. 25 but posted two wins to climb in the national poll.

The Nittany Lions swept Wisconsin and Michigan in week eight to close out their home conference slate and now sit at a 10-3-2 overall record and 5-2-1 in the Big Ten. Redshirt senior and co-captain Ally Schlegel also recorded her 100th career point against Michigan after converting two goals to close out a big week for the team.

Five different Nittany Lions scored the team’s six goals against the Badgers and Wolverines and goalkeeper Katherine Asman only had to make six total saves across the two games in the offensive showcase.

Asman was also named the Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week after registering the two shutouts.

Now, Penn State will head to Lincoln to take on Nebraska at 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, followed by its final conference game against Iowa at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 23. Both matches will be streamed on BTN+.

On the men’s side, head coach Jeff Cook’s squad suffered a 4-2 loss at the hands of Indiana and remains unranked. Liam Butts and Peter Mangione each converted a goal in the team’s loss, but the Nittany Lions only posted seven shots in 90 minutes in the lackluster performance against the Hoosiers.

Currently, Penn State is fifth in Big Ten standings heading into its final three games. Jeff Cook and Co. will take on Ohio State at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 21, at Jeffrey Field, then close out its regular season home slate against Rutgers at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25. Then, the Nittany Lions will travel to Ann Arbor for their final match against Michigan at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 30.
