Washington Commanders Re-Sign Troy Apke, Place Tariq Castro-Fields On Injured Reserve

The Washington Commanders have re-signed defensive back Troy Apke to the practice squad and moved fellow defensive back Tariq Castro-Fields to the injured reserve list, the team announced Friday morning.

The Commanders, who currently sit at 2-4, had previously released Apke back in August.

Apke has spent his whole career in Washington, having been selected by the franchise in the fourth round with the No. 109 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Meanwhile, Castro-Fields was moved in the injured reserve by the team. The Maryland native was claimed by Washington after being waived by the San Francisco 49ers. San Francisco selected Castro-Fields in the sixth round with the No. 221 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Castro-Fields spent five seasons at Penn State and quickly became an impact player on the defense. Castro-Fields had 139 tackles, 25 passes defended, and three interceptions at Penn State.

Meanwhile, Apke totaled 55 tackles and one interception during his four seasons at Penn State. Apke has totaled 68 tackles and one interception so far in the NFL.
